In support of the national "Year of Giving", Abu Dhabi Airports hosted the “Giving Race” in collaboration with the Spartan Race, at Al-Ghazal Golf Club on 31st March, 2017. The event was open to Abu Dhabi Government and Semi-Government entities, private entities as well as local communities, and was held in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

With an attendance of 2500+, spectators cheered the participants from the festival area as they waded through mud, water, sand and jumped through fire, in tough weather conditions with temperatures rising to 35 degrees centigrade. Alongside the main race there were races for children to encourage little ones to step away from their electronic toys and benefit from the positive affect of sport activities on their health and self-confidence.

Abdul Majeed Al Khoori, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “This race was a great success in every aspect. We had a brilliant turn out of participants and spectators, of all age ranges, and the sense of camaraderie between entrants from all the different Abu Dhabi Government entities present, was heartening to see. It was a fun day out for the whole family and we raised money for several charities including the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs and the Emirates Autism Center, in support of the national Year of Giving.”

Abu Dhabi Airports also donated 1,000 tickets to the communities and their children including children’s charities and special needs organizations allowing them to participate in the event.

Al Khoori added: “We take this opportunity to thank all our partners who supported this one of a kind initiative.”
