2.2 Million Passengers used Abu Dhabi International Airport in January

Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) handled in excess of 2.2 million passengers in January, representing a 2.6% increase in airport traffic compared with January 2016.

Aircraft movement at the capital’s airport also increased, up 1% on same time last year with 14,666 take-offs and landings. 
Key highlights:
• Total passenger traffic in January reached 2,209,515.
• Traffic to and from India, one of the most popular routes to and from AUH, increased by 2.0% in January this month versus January 2016. 
• The UK was the second most popular route, increasing by 14.1% this January compared to same month in 2016, mainly due to London passenger traffic which grew 23.0%, due to the addition of a third daily A380 flight to the UK’s capital. 
• Passenger numbers to Egypt continued to grow significantly and recorded an 18.4% increase on the same month the previous year, boosted by Etihad’s four daily flights to the country and the operation of Fly Egypt to Alexandria, which added 1,904 passengers during January.  
• The top five destinations from AUH during January 2017 were: London growing sharply by 23.0%; followed by Bangkok, which increased by 2.0%; Bombay growing by 13.0%; Doha, which grew by 2.0%; and Jeddah, growing by 4.0%.
